About the M9 Bayonet

How to get an M9 Bayonet

The M9 Bayonet is a rare special item that drops from cases, not from gameplay. It appears in the same older container pool as the other legacy knives (the original CS:GO Weapon Case, the Operation cases such as Bravo/Phoenix/Breakout, and other 'classic' knife cases), so you need a key for the matching case to have a chance at one. The combined odds of pulling any knife from a case are roughly 0.26%, and that knife is then randomly one model from the case's knife set and a random finish — so a specific M9 finish is a small fraction of that already-rare pull. Because of this, almost everyone acquires the M9 on the Steam Community Market or third-party markets rather than by unboxing. The model is not available in newer Gamma/Chroma-era cases, which use the Karambit/Talon-style 'butterfly' generation of knives instead.

Finishes and Doppler phases

The M9 Bayonet carries the legacy knife finish library. Top-tier paints include Doppler, Gamma Doppler, Marble Fade, Fade, Tiger Tooth, Lore, Autotronic, Crimson Web, Case Hardened and Slaughter. Mid and lower tiers cover Damascus Steel, Ultraviolet, Bright Water, Freehand, Stained, Blue Steel, Night, Rust Coat, Boreal Forest, Forest DDPAT, Safari Mesh, Scorched and Urban Masked. The Doppler finish splits into Phases 1–4 plus the rare blue Sapphire, red Ruby and Black Pearl; Gamma Doppler adds the green Emerald. On the M9 the Sapphire and Ruby blades command large premiums because the blue/red coverage on its broad blade is among the most prized. There is also the plain 'Vanilla' M9 Bayonet — a finish-less polished steel blade — which has its own collector following and sits as one of the more expensive 'no-paint' knives.

What drives value: pattern, fade and float

For the M9, the biggest value swings come from pattern-dependent finishes. Case Hardened M9s are graded on their blue placement (the so-called 'blue gem' patterns); a blade with a heavy blue face is worth a large multiple of a brown/yellow one. Fade M9s are valued by fade percentage, with full 100% fades preferred. Marble Fade is hunted for clean 'Fire & Ice' style color placement, and Doppler/Gamma Doppler are sorted by phase before condition. Float (wear) still matters — Factory New and Minimal Wear pull the strongest prices, and on knives like the M9 a low float keeps the steel and serration looking crisp — but for the pattern-driven paints the seed often outweighs a few float points. Solid colors like Tiger Tooth, Ultraviolet and Blue Steel are far less pattern-sensitive and price mostly on condition.

M9 Bayonet versus other knife models

Within the legacy knife lineup the M9 typically prices above the standard Bayonet and around or above the Karambit and Butterfly depending on finish and market mood — it is firmly in the 'premium' bracket, not an entry knife. The cheapest realistic way into the model is a lower-tier finish (Boreal Forest, Safari Mesh, Forest DDPAT, Scorched, Urban Masked, Night) in Battle-Scarred or Well-Worn. If you want the M9 specifically for its animation and don't care about paint, those low-tier finishes or a Vanilla are the budget routes. Buyers who want the look but can't reach M9 prices often drop to the standard Bayonet (similar blade family, cheaper) or a Gut/Falchion/Navaja from the cheaper knife tiers.

Frequently asked questions

Is the M9 Bayonet a good knife?
It is one of the most popular legacy knives because of its large blade and its standout spin inspect animation. It is purely cosmetic and gives no gameplay advantage, but it holds demand and resale value well within the knife market.
How much is an M9 Bayonet in CS2?
Prices range widely by finish and condition. Low-tier finishes (Boreal Forest, Safari Mesh, Scorched) in worn condition are the cheapest entry, while Doppler Sapphire/Ruby, clean Fades and blue-gem Case Hardened blades reach the highest prices in the model.
What is a Vanilla M9 Bayonet?
It is the finish-less version — a plain polished stainless blade with no paint. It cannot be unboxed as a separate item the way painted versions are described, and it carries collector value as a 'clean steel' knife, sitting among the pricier no-paint knives.
Which M9 Bayonet Doppler phase is best?
It comes down to preference and price. Sapphire (deep blue) and Ruby (red) are the rarest and most expensive, followed by Black Pearl. Among the standard phases, Phase 2 and Phase 4 are generally most sought for their pink/black-and-blue coverage.
Can you still unbox an M9 Bayonet?
Yes, from the older cases that contain the legacy knife set, but only with the matching key and at the standard ~0.26% knife odds. It is not in the newer Gamma/Chroma-era cases. Most people buy it on the market instead.
What is the difference between the M9 Bayonet and the Bayonet?
They share the same cases but are different models. The M9 has a longer, serrated sawback blade with a more aggressive profile and a flashier spin animation, and it usually prices above the standard Bayonet for the same finish.
