Shop items have categories, prices and upgrade relationships. Components can be part of a larger item rather than a separate final purchase.

Compare the full cost with the remaining upgrade cost. Choose the effect you need now and leave room to adapt to the opposing team.

No. The current inventory uses universal slots.
