Also called: bullet shield, spirit shield, barrier, combat barrier, shield health, temp HP, overshield, shielding
Shields and barriers absorb damage according to the effect that grants them. Their capacity, duration and protection can differ.
In practice
Check which damage a barrier blocks and when it expires. Do not assume that a visible shield protects against every attack or control effect.
Common questions
Will a barrier prevent a stun?
Not by itself. Control immunity or cleansing needs its own explicit effect.
Are Weapon Shielding and Spirit Shielding different barrier types?
Both grant a barrier, but their trigger conditions differ. The damage that activates the item does not create an old-style separate shield type.
