Weapon damage and Spirit damage use different bonuses and resistances. An ability’s appearance does not reliably identify its damage type.

Check the damage description and scaling on the ability or item card. Buy protection against the damage actually threatening you.

No. Scaling describes how a value grows; the effect still has its own damage and interaction rules.
Does a gun build deal only bullet damage?
No. Abilities and item procs can add other damage types to the same firing sequence.
