Souls pay for items and contribute to hero progression. Troopers, neutral enemies, objectives and fights provide different opportunities to earn them.
In practice
Choose nearby income you can collect safely. Unspent souls do not provide an item’s effects until you make the purchase.

Do I need the final hit on every trooper?
No. Troopers can generate souls when an eligible player is nearby; securing and collecting the resulting rewards still matter.
Can I steal the enemy’s ground pickup?
Their faint ground orbs are not yours to collect. Contest the flying denyable orb instead.
