Steam can go down for various reasons: scheduled maintenance (typically on Tuesdays), unexpected server issues, DDoS attacks, or high traffic during major sales. Most outages are brief and resolved within minutes to hours.

How long do Steam outages last?

Most Steam outages last between 5-30 minutes. Scheduled maintenance usually takes 15-30 minutes. Major outages are rare but can last several hours.

What can I do when Steam is down?

If Steam is down, you can still play games in offline mode. Launch Steam, go to Steam menu → Go Offline. Single-player games will work, but multiplayer and cloud saves won't be available.
